Tourism

Tourism refers to travel undertaken for recreation, leisure, and discovering new destinations, usually for a limited period of time.

The World Tourism Organization defines tourists as “people who travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, recreation, business, or other purposes.”

Today, tourism is a major source of revenue for many countries, and in numerous destinations it represents the most important economic sector.

Consequently, in recent decades—alongside extensive research to identify attractive destinations and enhanced tourism promotion in our region—there has been active work to expand and diversify the tourism offering.
