About Us

The Foundation for Local Development and Development of Information Technologies (FLORIT) Gevgelija was established in 2001 as an initiative of the local government, the business sector, and the non-governmental sector of the Municipality of Gevgelija, under the name Foundation – Center for Local Development – Gevgelija. Since January 21, 2005, it has carried its current name.

In the past 25 years of its existence, the Foundation has established itself not only within the municipality but also across the entire country, as well as in the cross-border region where it primarily carries out its activities.

According to the Statute of the Foundation for Local Development and Development of Information Technologies – Gevgelija (Article 2), the Foundation was established as a non-profit and non-governmental organization, in which activities based on political, religious, or other positions that violate human rights or endanger the social and democratic interests of the municipality and the state are strictly prohibited.

The Foundation is engaged in promoting sustainable development policies at the local and regional levels, with a particular focus on introducing innovations and practices for continuous learning in various fields, including environment, entrepreneurship, energy, rural development, sustainable tourism, and cultural heritage.

Mission

The mission of FLORIT – Gevgelija is to support local development through the initiation, preparation, and implementation of development projects within the municipality of Gevgelija and the region, in synergy and partnership with all social groups and individuals.

Vision

FLORIT – Gevgelija is a recognized organization at the local, national, and international levels and a sought-after partner for cooperation in the field of sustainable local and regional development. It promotes and develops traditional values through a modern approach and contributes to strengthening the capacities of local self-government.

The foundation’s primary goal is to participate in and support local development and the strengthening of democracy through:

  • Providing knowledge and implementing initiatives that ensure sustainable development;
  • Establishing cross-border networks to create synergy and connect with similar or identical organizations in the region and the country;
  • Preparation, development, and implementation of cross-border development projects;
  • Drafting strategic documents of local and regional character, following the “bottom-up” approach;
  • Designing development projects based on analytical foundations that ensure objectivity and harmonization of data according to international norms and standards;
  • Cooperation and development with the civil sector and encouraging the establishment of new civil organizations;
  • Improving the skills of the local workforce;
  • Supporting tourism development through the implementation of projects derived from strategic documents;
  • Supporting rural development in the Municipality of Gevgelija, the Southeast Planning Region, and at the national level;
  • Supporting cultural activities in the Municipality of Gevgelija, the Southeast Planning Region, and at the national level.
