Cultural Heritage
The Republic of Macedonia possesses a rich cultural heritage shaped by influences from various peoples, cultures, and traditions. This heritage is expressed through monuments and sites left behind by great civilizations such as the Ancient Macedonian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman. The tangible remnants of these cultures—referred to as 'immovable cultural heritage'—are found throughout the country, ranging from classical amphitheaters and mosaics of the Late Antiquity period to medieval fortresses, icons, and frescoes.
The value of these monuments and landscapes—their historical, artistic, and spiritual significance—cannot be measured. Their aesthetic worth has proven timeless. For this reason, it is of inestimable importance—both for Macedonia and the world—to protect and preserve this cultural heritage.
